The Purpose of this event is to create a focus of study across cultures and nations, represented by members. By studying how members came to belong to groups that developed a sense of being European. The aim is to expand our diverse understandings of what makes us Europeans.
This workshop comes in a different format from an earlier 2-day event that proved hard to sustain and recruit for. Nevertheless, we believe it central to current concerns of many in society and worth building a community of interest to study this theme.
Current Context
European dynamics between nations and peoples have been both tense and yet creative across the past 100-years and more. This has created a heritage that deserves wider and deeper understanding to find positions from which to engage in Europe wide projects. Right now, Europeans are being asked to find new ways of bridging differences to commit to the common cause of working within a European identity across many fields. We believe this demands that we look below the surface to explore what makes us European.
