Using the craft of storytelling, this workshop will help you develop your idea into an engaging narrative.
Now, more than ever, there is a hunger for learning about work that explores the human condition, but if you’re immersed in a specialist field, it can be hard to translate these ideas and concepts to a universal audience. Whether it’s an article in a newspaper or magazine, or starting a Substack or a blog, the ability to write about complex ideas in an accessible and interesting way is a skill – and this workshop will show you how.
Two consecutive three-hour workshops will cover the following:
– What do you want to write about? Clarity about your focus.
– Who do you want to write for? Knowing your audience.
– What’s the story? – key fundamentals of storytelling and their role in writing non-fiction articles.
– Procrastination, and the conscious and unconscious blocks to creativity.
– Confidentiality and anonymising your work.
– Finishing a first draft – now what?
The workshops will include teaching, writing exercises, discussion and feedback and are designed for small group learning, so places are limited.
It can be helpful (but not essential) to come to the workshop with something in mind that you would like to write about.
